The darkest of days
It was a very dark day indeed, after battling through almost two years and three lockdowns, to wake up one morning and discover that your client’s business premises had burnt to the ground overnight. And to make matters even worse, the client also happens to be my own brothers. The Con-tempo Furniture showrooms in Warminster represented over thirty years of spectacularly hard, committed work and suddenly, they were gone. It was a painfully low moment for our family, and soul-destroyingly sad to see so many years of my brothers’ dedication suddenly, and so devastatingly, destroyed.
Fast-forward several months and although times have been rather testing to say the least, the first signs of re-birth are becoming apparent. The thought of packing it all in and acquiescing to fate was always inconceivable, my brothers are way too strong and resilient to entertain such defeatism. Of course, there have been the usual investigations, inquiries and dealings with relevant authorities, insurance companies and fire engine chasing low-life. But the seeds of new beginnings have now been sown and we’re all looking forward to being a part of rebuilding the business.
Happier days ahead
Plans are now in place and action being instigated as the first stages of the rebuild are being put into place. It’ll be a long slog and, undoubtedly, there will be a few more trials and tribulations to be encountered along the way. But it is happening and there is a palpable buzz of excitement in the air. Con-tempo’s customers have been incredibly patient and understanding, almost all of whom have been prepared to wait for their furniture orders. And the boys are ready and raring to go as they inch their way forward through the whole process.
The shock of the fire at Con-tempo is now behind us and the healing process is well under way. With a little luck, Con-tempo will soon be able to share news about an official opening and they’ll be back producing some of the very best, British made, solid oak furniture available in the UK.
